A large lagoon stop where families can learn how estuaries mix fresh and salty influences over time.

Narrabeen Lagoon is one of the Northern Beaches' most useful estuary classrooms. It receives water from the land, but it is also shaped by coastal processes and lagoon openings. That means the system keeps changing with rain, runoff, sand build-up and connections to the sea. In science, this is a dynamic system rather than a fixed one.
Children often think of lakes and lagoons as still places, but Narrabeen pushes back against that idea. Water quality, salinity and habitat conditions can all shift. Families can use the stop to talk about feedback loops: what happens after heavy rain, and what happens after a long dry period? An estuary is a place where one change can ripple through the whole system.
