Freshwater Wave Physics Lab

Freshwater is a strong wave-reading beach. As swell rolls toward shore, the sea floor becomes shallower and the bottom of each wave starts to slow down. The top keeps travelling faster for a moment, the shape grows steeper and eventually the wave breaks. That simple physical process creates a whole beach culture built around judging timing, shape and power.

Children do not need to surf to understand this. They can watch where waves first begin to tip, compare bigger sets with smaller ones and notice how the angle of the shoreline influences the peel. Beaches are outdoor physics demonstrations. At Freshwater, every breaking wave shows how energy changes form as it meets the land.
