Fresh water, birdlife and wetland calm right beside one of Sydney's best surf beaches.

Dee Why Lagoon is one of the walk's best surprises. Only a short distance from the surf, the mood changes completely: reeds replace foam, birdlife becomes the soundtrack, and the water feels sheltered and reflective rather than muscular.
The lagoon has been recognised as a wildlife sanctuary for birds since 1973, and it gives the whole collection a gentler counterpoint. Without it, Dee Why would still be beautiful. With it, the place becomes richer, softer and more layered.
